Electric Fear

You know how sometimes you have a fear of something that's just completely irrational? That's how I feel about electric stovetops. I smell burnt pots and taste ruined food that's seared but raw before I've even turned the dial. I just don't trust 'em. And I'm convinced that they are the reason that so many people say "they can't cook." (Note the many references to food being burned. Doesn't happen when you're cooking with gas.)

Which is a long way of saying that the new-to-me electric stovetop has scared me from cooking, which explains the lengthy delay since the last post.

Oh, yes, I was also homeless for a stretch (makes it hard to cook). And I started grad school. And like a walking cliché, I've been eating the grad school diet: pizza, Progresso, prepared food. Not so interesting to write about.

But I'm going to try. I'm going to tackle the electric monster. (My current strategy: never turn it on "high.") I'm going to try and cook a nutritious meal or two.

And I'm going to tell you all about it.
